Los Andes Jazz Project was born over a decade ago when Yayo had the idea to investigate Afro Bolivian rhythms. What started as a pure curiosity about his cultural roots turned into a musical journey that has continued to inspire him today. He found in his research a musical place, perfect for his own musical expression, combining it with his first and biggest passion: jazz. In this, the second album, Yayo has included the extra challenge of an acoustic jazz trio setting, in a traditional jazz recording, however he uses Afro-Bolivian, Bolivian and Andean melodies and rhythms mixed with modern jazz harmonies and polyrhythms. This second album is a more mature and intense development from the first. While there is an obvious connection, the two albums are completely different. Yayo offers a wonderful and refreshing change of style, accenting his versatility and audacity. Los Andes Jazz Project 2 is simply a jazz album in its own right, with a hint of Bolivian flavor that makes it sound unique and like nothing you have ever heard before.

This project would be nothing without the support and participation of two amazing musicians: German Kucich (piano) and Scott Ambush (upright bass and elec. bass). Not only did they understand the concept of this music, they stretched it as high as the clouds, offering their talent and musical quality, their hearts and their share of hope. They took Los Andes Jazz Project to a higher level…and for that I am eternally grateful.

Scott Ambush.
I first met Scott in La Paz (Bolivia). He was touring with Spyro Gyra. He had been invited to perform a master class by the Bolivian Department for Culture. I had been asked to play one song with him; we ended playing for the whole master class together.A few months later toured our own master class together: it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. I knew from that first master class that Scott would bring something amazing and special to this project, and I’m humbled and proud that he accepted the challenge.

German Kucich
I’ve known German for almost a quarter of a century. We are connected, both as friends and musicians. I admire him tremendously. He is an exquisite pianist with an amazing level of musicianship. From the first moment to the finished album German has given me unbelievable support endless energy and his spectacular talent. He is truly my brother. And I can not thank him enough for his belief in me and love for this project.
